Lately I’ve been getting asked a lot what I think makes up a good WordPress wedding blog, and I have a few ideas from all the wedding websites I’ve been working on.

1. Photography: Good wedding photography is crucial. I understand we’re in a recession, and the economy is not what it used to be. But wedding photography should not be an area where you decide to save money on (Uncle Jeb and his 1950s SLR will not suffice here people).  You’re only going to get married once (hopefully), and you want these memories to be as clear and sharp and amazing as possible.

Your family will thank you, your friends will be envious, your guests will impressed, but most importantly, you will have no regret in the future.  Remember, money spent can always be recovered. Good memories last a lifetime.

2. Content: You don’t need to have the cutest love story or the most enthralling work of art.  Your content just needs to be genuine. Whether your spouse-to-be proposed on one knee, or sky-wrote the proposal on the summit ofMount Kilimanjaro, your story is beautiful and we want to know about it. A lot of couples get really wrapped up in trying to manufacture content that reads similar to online print ads, and that becomes kind of contrived and dishonest.

Tell the story like you would – say, over a few cocktails with your best friends – and then revise it to your liking.  You’ll be surprised at the quality of your final outcome.

3. Website: Weddings were magical before the Internet, and even before digital photography ever existed. However, in keeping up with the times, having your very own wedding website is the most convenient way to share with your guests what you are up to.

Websites don’t have to be state-of-the-art, but they also shouldn’t be old-school.  That’s why I recommend using WordPress, an easy-to-use platform for managing all your wedding-related content. Also, with WordPress you get to choose from a dazzling variety of WordPress wedding themes, premium and free.  In an industry where the cost of creating qualities websites can be astronomical, WordPress is the white knight.

4. Have Fun!: With any big project, people focus so hard on so many things that they tend to forget the original intent and purpose of their work. There’s no point in overextending yourself, so why not bring some friends along for the fun? Call on your loved ones to help out with your WordPress wedding website. Not only will the reduced work load be a relief, it’ll be really fun to read what they have to say about your upcoming wedding, too.

This WordPress wedding theme is full of bright colors and exudes happiness.  The general makeup of the theme is pretty typical, but as you can see from the demo the blog looks great when combined with professional photography.  A wedding blog like this will need to be wedding photo intensive to fully complete the formula.  However, as you can see from the demo, the brilliant, quality photos truly make the theme.

Simple and to the point, this wonderful WordPress wedding theme has a lot to offer.  The metallic font and color schemes gives this theme a very modern feel.  While some argue that metal is cold and sterile, great photography and content will bring the warmth out of this beautiful WordPress theme.

A cool aspect is the newsletter widget.  Using this widget, couples will be able to update their wedding guests on important happenings about their upcoming marriage.  Very cool.  Even though this theme seems to have been created for a company, this WordPress can be easily engineered to supplement any wedding.

At first glance, this wonderful WordPress theme looks like it should be used as a portfolio for photography.  However, with a little ingenuity and creativity WordPress this theme would make a great addition to any wedding.   The running slideshow is always a great addition to any wedding blog and the options to have those pictures link to different pages is very cool.

This great thing about this demo is the ability to sample different patterns and color schemes using the left hand column.  It gives the couples the opportunity to pick and choose the color scheme before their purchase.  This clean and professional WordPress theme is a solid choice and gets a big two thumbs up.
